Love Me Please

1965       Linda Boyce

Our story opens with the main character, Bebe, alone in Central Park, after a day of job hunting. Being very lonely and depressed, a friendly gesture from a stranger leads to an erotic interlude of momentary relief from her anxieties.
During this incident we are made to realize Bebe's desperate need for love, a lack of which she has experienced all of her life from family as well as in her sexual relationships. Consequently she surges into sexual explorations with the fury of a wounded animal. The handsome stranger, having satisfied his physical need, leaves her in despair, a scene too often experienced by Bebe.
After this encounter, Bebe finds herself seeking help from a psychiatrist. The doctor probes her problem patiently but Bebe resists the therapy being offered. She appears to want help but is afraid to reveal her true self.
Bebe continues to seek employment and finally answers an ad for a fashion model. During some test shots of her in various costumes, she becomes aroused by the photographer's movements with the

camera. During a fast paced series of revealing photographs, she cannot control her desire and is seen seducing him. This brief episode is but a fleeting moment of passion, as empty as the others.
One day she runs into an old girl friend, accompanied by a smooth talking young man. Bebe's flirtatious actions attract him and later that night we find him in her apartment. In an attempt to tease him, she does an erotic strip before making love. As a device to further stimulate him, she pretends to resist him but her passion finally erupts. When she awakens next morning, he is walking out the door. She begs him not to leave, but to no avail.
Bebe seems determined to destroy herself emotionally and we next see her befriend a girl named Ilona. They are seen making love in Bebe's apartment. During this completely new experience for Bebe, she has flashbacks of all the men with whom she has had sexual relations. In her fantasy, she sees them all together in an orgy where she is the goddess. While making love to Mona, she is heard talking to her as if she were all the men from her past.
The story ends with Bebe in Mona's arms. She pauses to reflect and we wonder whether she will ever resolve the frustration and sadness of wanting to be loved, not knowing what the experience is like.
