Army of Darkness
Evil Dead, Part 3

1992       Embeth Davidtz

The Dark Ages, as they were, have never been darker. Aside from your everyday pestilence and pillage, sorcery and savagery, poverty and plague, an even greater menace now threatens: The Undead are rising. . . literally!

That's just what every grungy peasant needs...

Terrified serfs cower behind castle walls. Gallant knights sharpen their broadswords to engage in mortal combat with an enemy they know they can never defeat. But as D-Day (read Deadites) approaches, a leader from another time and place suddenly materializes ... with a magic all his own.

His name is Ash. His Excalibur: an unreliable chainsaw; his lance, an aging 12-gauge shotgun; his steed, a 1973 Delta 88 Olds in sore need of a new engine.

As with his previous films - in particular "The Evil Dead," "Evil Dead II" and "Darkman" - horror-master Sam Raimi delivers a visual tour de force in this outrageously comic sword-and-sorcery fantasy about an innocent 20th century man who is hurtled by demonic forces back into the Dark Ages. In a

hilariously macabre tug-of-war between the living and the dead, Ash (BRUCE CAMPBELL) must confront legions of the possessed in the ultimate battle for survival - and the only possible chance to return to his own time.

Dino De Laurentiis Communications Presents a Renaissance Pictures Production starring Bruce Campbell, Army of Darkness Also starring Embeth Davidtz, the film is directed by Sam Raimi, produced by Robert Tapert, co-produced by Bruce Campbell and written by Sam Raimi & Ivan Raimi.

Suspense master Raimi's intense creativity and unique sense of black humor has never been more exemplified than in Army of Darkness The nonstop action tale is enshrouded in sweeping medieval landscapes, armies of skeletal monsters, demons that burst from tombs to terrorize the innocent and time that is twisted and turned upon itself.

Ash's formidable adversaries possess all the deadly magic of hell; the odds against his makeshift army are long. But this reluctant time traveler has a few surprises of his own, the most important of which is knowledge and an attitude that is centuries more sophisticated. Raimi, a Michigan native, began his film career making scores of Super 8 films starring fellow student Bruce Campbell when both attended high school together in Detroit. This enterprise, besides Campbell, also often involved Raimi's brother, Ivan, now a practicing physician and a screenwriter in his own right. Although the brothers' careers diverged during college - one went into medicine, the other movies - neither forgot the joys associated with making films.
