Wicked Dreams of Paula Schultz

1968       Elke Sommer

Paula Schultz (ELKE SOMMER) is East Germany's leading woman athlete, slated to appear as a symbol of solidarity or something, in the forthcoming Olympic Games. For reasons of his own, Propaganda Minister Klaus (WERNER KLEMPERER) appoints her his special "aide," an arrangement which requires her to share his plush apartment. This she doesn't like and defects to the west- using her prowess as a pole vaulter to get over the Berlin Wall.

This almost literally throws her info the arms of Bill Mason (BOB CRANE) American soldier-of-fortune currently making his pile by smuggling hair spray info the East German black market. Which makes him a wanted man by the Communists.

Klaus is given to understand that he had better get Paula back. Very, very bad propaganda. The dread word "liquidate" is bandied about.

Bill and Paula become more than dear friends. When he learns, however, that the Communists are willing to pay an enormous sum for her return-he has second and third thoughts. The story then moves at rapid pace into

a hilarious tug of war for Paula between the forces of the democracy and totalitarianism . . . . .
